How has the development of your project been influenced by your research on working practices for your chosen profession?
My project started with a basic modern day bike but then I began using research to change the shape and morph it to fit the theme more, I used concept art of different cyber punk bikes to make a better shape in the end I changed the shape completely moving onto just photo bashing bikes together to make a better shape. The next part after the shape was the little details that I wanted on the bike, this was not very hard it just took a little while to find parts of bikes that I liked to add and places I should place them onto the bike. The modeling portion of the project I needed further assistance with the layout of the bike due to the shape that I had made I still needed to make the seat and the back part of the bike so I looked at a modern bike to get the base idea of what I wanted, this was the bike I had already used in my research so I just pulled it into maya. The helmet was something that I struggled with a little so I had to the idea to use the helmets researched after I used a template to get the base shape then I would make he helmet look more like the designs I looked into.
Has the development of your project been affected by your research into historical and contemporary influences for your chosen profession?
I belive my cyberpunk bike shape, size ,and style has been affected by my research into the theme and the large collection of games and movies that use the theme cyberpunk have helped me make a base idea of what I wanted and how I wanted to do it, I wanted a long bike like the film AKIRA (More Info click the name) but I wanted a more race feel to it so it looks like it had been raced in the streets in underground style racing. I have tried to expand on the cyberpunk theme and have attempted to fit into the “doing anything to survive” kind of style this means that the people living are under oppression from upper classes who treat them like dirt and bottom dwellers this is something that most films and shows use for the theme of cyberpunk an example of this would be a show named altered carbon and a movie named ghost in the shell. I have used all this knowledge that I gathered from these films/shows to make my idea stand out and fit well into the theme.
Reflect on your learning and skills – What you have done and why you have done it?
Throughout this unit I have learnt new skills and have improved on existing skills, I have learnt more about substance designer and have also looked into zbrush (Did not end up using it but still looked into it and did a little trial run) I really enjoyed learning new skills with a new program and actually really enjoyed working on facial features for characters. The main part of learning Zbrush was to do some of my project with the program but in the end I was not confident enough to use it. I also worked with substance designer and learnt how to make some really nice realistic look textures for my bike I followed tutorials on how to make some of the textures and used the skills I learnt from this video to help with some of the other textures for this project. I have learnt lot during the project leading up to this and during this project and I have learnt how to better manage my time with my work making my work better all in all because i had more time to work on it.
Sum up your ongoing evaluations/opinions/reflections that you documented during the project.
I have been pushing myself a lot during this project to improve my work and I have believe that most/all or the evaluations, opinions and reflections are honest and have clearly shown how I have worked an where I can improve and were I should improve. I have focused on being harder on myself so I can improve and tried a different style or work which is recording my work and then talking over it this has helped improve my work due to me not being very good at typing and becoming bored a lot when I type and loosing focus this has helped me in total improve my work.
What do you feel has worked well and what did not work well? What could you do to improve your work?
I have worked hard on this project and I am actually really happy, with the result of the project. This was the first time I have ever made a vehicle or even thought about making one and the project is one of my best pieces of work and shows how far I have come from the start of this course. One of the main things I am happy about are the textures and how I worked on them to make them fit well with the detail of the bike so they did not look rushed I also used substance designer to make the metal texture. The parts of this project that did not go so well were that it was my first vehicle and I was not confident with the shape so I spent too long it instead of working on other bits of the bike this means my time management took a turn for the worst, how I would improve this would be to start the textures earlier and then move make to adjusting the shape and then move it into painter after both texture and shape is done to speed up the final prep, also I would give more time to the texture processes meaning the texture could be even better.
Reflect on peer and tutor feedback.
The feedback a received from tutors and other peers I found really helpful, as it helped me find what I needed to work on and how I could improve my work to get to a better grade and a better standard of work for the rest of my projects. This helped because I fell behind due to personal problems and I used the feedback from my tutors to get my work back up to scratch making sure I read through there feedback and understood it all and if I needed any help with it I could always go and ask them, It mainly helped me towards the end of this project so that I could improve some of my work to get a better grad and make other things up to a good grade instead of just satisfactory.
What have you learnt during this project?
During this project I have learnt a great deal, mainly how efficiently I work with time and that I need to be more efficient when it comes to the tasks I assign myself, The main things that I need to work on is time a management and effort as a whole. I would have liked to spend more time on the texture during this project but that is not to say that I have not done some nice texture in the time I had and I am really happy with what I did, this entire project has really shown me that I need to work harder and put a lot more effort into my work and this is not something I am going to focus on. The next unit I will take all that I have learnt the good and bad an hopefully make a really cool project.
